Never driven an XC90 in anger but I have to say they’re very comfortable in the V90CC (Pro with perforated nappa) but I recently had an XC60 loaner (Inscription Pro) for a few days which I found quite different, almost uncomfortable with the extension extended.
In fact, the seats were generally firmer, still supportive but not in the same league as the V90, which was quite surprising, so I can understand some of these comments.

I am not happy with the "luxury" seats of my XC Inscription either. Extensions are definitely unusable, because of the gap they leave, which is extremely uncomfortable. After fiddling around some time, I gave up and now are definitely retracted.

On the other hand, seats lack cushioning. When you sit they seem comfortable, as they surround your body quite well, but after some hours of use .... too hard.

Would I buy them again? Not at all, it was a mistake.

I find the seats in my V90 CC Pro with perforated Nappa very comfortable with the extension extended. The issue I had was with the lumbar support which took quite a bit of adjustment before I was comfortable.

Most of my mileage is 300+ miles journeys.

I found the angle of the seat base matters to me.

When the base is tipping forward (knees level to hip), the extension didn't bother me.

When the base is tilted backwards (knees above hip), for some reason I felt more pressure on hamstring and hips - not very comfortable for me.

Only had the car for about 7 hours, will try play it more.

I spent hours struggling with lumbar support (height and depth) until finding the ideal position: totally retracted. That's it, no support.
It is like not having it at all, but more expensive ....

I don't think the seats in my XC60 Inscription are anywhere near as good as my 2007 V50 SE. They were still so comfortable, even after 80,000 miles. Nothing fancy, manual lumber support but a good size, thick and cushioned. They were great.

The seats are one of the reasons I am not wowed by my XC60. Other reasons include the H/K stereo (it's good but not that good), the stupid stupid key and the Sensus software which sometimes has a mind of its own in terms of parking brake, the car's air suspension going up and down when I get out and there being no way to permanently defeat stop/start (I appreciate that's a compliance thing).

To end more positively - I really like Pilot Assist and the sunroof!

Yes - same here - lumbar can be tricky to get just right, but worth the effort.
So happy with this amazing car!

Rather annoyingly, ONCE you to get it right it doesn’t save to the seat memory, at least not on the MY17 XC90

Interesting, what problem do you have with the key? I dont like the buttons on the side and cant use them without my reading glasses on so just open it using the little pads on the door handles. Parking brake on my 18 xc90 is fine but does do various safety related tricks if I am not wearing a seatbelt (when I put it away in the garage for instance). I do like the air suspension though. Sounds like you have selected ‘easy access mode’ could you not change this to standard setting if you do not want it to lower as you get in/out?

I don't have any problems with the lumber support just the base of the seat and if Volvo don't improve the seats we will definitely look at other cars next time.
I love the air suspension but we haven't got easy entry ticked and after getting out the suspension still changes and when I asked the boss at the dealers he said his 90 does the same so it is just levelling it self.
I found the easy entry/exit was a waste of time as when you stopped and opened the door it stopped it from working and then went down after you got out which defeats the object of it.
