Default 940 caliper bracket/carrier -still available?

The 940 was making a grinding sound and when I checked the brakes, one of the pads was down to the metal whilst the other was barely worn. It turns out one of the caliper slide pins had seized. Unfortunately whilst trying to remove it it has sheared off and part of it is still inside the caliper bracket. Unfortunately it won't come out. Any tips? Or is it a new bracket and if so, are they still available? I've had a quick look around the internet and they don't seem very common. Plus I will need new slide pins and rubbers as well. Thanks.

Send THIS GUY a message on ebay. He's always breaking Volvos and could probably help you out. Or check on sites like Polar Parts or MisterAuto as they usually stock those kind of parts.

You could always send the callipers off to a refurb company. I've used Big Redd before. I think it was about £100 for the pair and they came back looking like new.

Hi, thanks for the info. Just to clarify it's the caliper bracket and not the actual caliper itself that has got the stuck bolt.

heat and beat.

Get the bracket VERY hot - cherry red. A gas axe or similar is required.

Smack the pin through while its hot.

It will move.

They are still available from Volvo if you get really stuck.

I was going to suggest the same. He broke a 940 only a few weeks ago.

Just to clarify Volvo can still get these but they are 'classic parts' so come from Sweden. Was quoted around £50 with a lead time of between 2 and 6 weeks.

Pins are readily available http://www.brakesint.co.uk/ they may even have the carriers. Get the old carrier to an engineering shop who can drill out the snapped pin and keep it as a spare if nothing else.

Did you try heating up? Or drilling out the pin? Or soaking then using a screw extractor? I've got a spare sliding pin if you need one.
