Default Long term fix for dodgy steering lock issue V50

My car (2010 V50 Eco) started presenting with "turn steering wheel" issue which transpires to be a dodgy steering lock, one of many schoolboy issues with Volvo these days that should never be happening. I wouldnt bother putting lock back, just cable tie it in place. I do have a question tho...you can disconnect the lock from the loom and plug it back in without anyrecode required. But I wonder if you could just disconnect it and leave it off will the car still start? And if it didnt would powering it up whilst disconnected then require a recode for the existing lock?

Theres also a good tip for cleaning up the dodgy fuse boxes and connections. They show disconnecting positive terminal of battery, is this ok?

Anyway to remove the steering lock go here

If you get messages like: "Immobilizer see manual", "anti-skid temporarily off", "anti-skid service required", "srs airbag service urgent", instrument cluster goes mad, or you have no control over central locks, wipers, climate...
Most likely you can fix those issues by removing rust and dirt from CEM connectors.
