It certainly could be more compact Going to hold off on judgement until I've had a proper look at it in place under the dash though. Can always make a smaller one later if required.

Looks like there's enough space on the panel for some additional switchgear though, should you ever need it. E.g. for front and / or rear fogs, heated rear window, hazards etc.

So today was the day I managed to get my Amazon off the road & out of the cruel Scottish winter.
The day didn't start out so well.... Thanks to some local scrote I now need a replacment mirror. Also noticed that the back seat & driver side rear floor were pretty wet. We've had some nasty driving rain & I know my rear windscreen seals are bad, but looks like its been getting in the rear nearside window as well. Spent the morning with Mitch getting his 1800 lifted up on to a trolley so we could roll it round the side of his workshop. Once that was done & a few hours of maneuvering later we got both our cars in the workshop. Decided I'd strip the interior so I could begin to get an idea what is in store. The floor at the back, although a bit wet doesn't seem to be in too bad a condition. I'll know for sure once I peel up the sound deadening Unfortunately I cant say the same about the front. Found this under the pedals: Definitely going to be practicing my welding! I also got the chance to test fit my gauge pod.. looks like it could do with being a touch smaller.. the tractor gear stick does hit it when shifting to 3rd. No rush to get it on now so will have a rethink about how best to mount them.

Spent all afternoon stripping more back to see what I'm really dealing with.
I started scraping the old sound deadening off the floor panels. Most of it flaked off so it clearly wasn't up to much. The rest of it was extremely stubborn to scrape. nearside rear foot well isn't ok after all I was finding that the door was in my way too much so I decided to take it off. I took the front wing off first & discovered a bit of a horror show. Lots of holes which had been filled in with what looked like silicone. Had a good poke & found this it must have been where the water was coming in when the damage to the passenger foot well happened (that's actually been fixed, but looks like its just been a plate welded over the damage.. wont know for sure until I strip the bottom of the car). I started poking away from the inside and there is a fair bit of rot there. I removed all the 'heat shield' which seems to consist of some dusty old sacks. The dust got right up my nose. Didn't seem to shield much heat either so I'm not going to reuse it. I also had a good go at the hole in the drivers side foot well. It's pretty bad there- the hole is directly above the frame- will need to get right in & hoover out all the rubbish & fill it with something to protect it before welding a panel over the top. The hole is now about 10 cm & I've not got all the way back to good metal. Unfortunately my phone battery was dead so I could get any pics. Can anyone advise how far underneath the repair panel for the drivers foot well goes? My hole is directly underneath the pedals and even goes a bit further forward towards the firewall.

What's the plans for the weekend Dave? I've got your engine in the van so we'll need to get it out, how's later on tomorrow afternoon for you. Will have a look at the good ole corrosion then as well.

Tomorrow afternoon is fine with me. I might be over there from late morning onwards. I've got the engine hoist there as well. Catch you tomorrow.

Should you also want a rear floor pan, the more expensive type from Brookhouse (along with the front floorpans that they also supply) are very nice, and fit extremely well.
