Fitting Towbar & Electrics to 97 940 Classic
I am about to embark on fitting a towbar onto my 97 940 classic, can anyone give me advice on whether this is likely to cause me serious headaches in which case i should pay the extortionate prices quoted by some local operators.....or that it should be reasonably ok for me to carry on with my obvious tight fisted money saving attitude......comments much appreciated!

hi,
dont worry to much about this job.firstly the fitting of the bar should not be to difficult as volvo,s are all made to accept a t/bar.get the back of the car raised up.it will make the job ten times easier.hopefully the rear bumper will not have to be removed or have any pieces cut out.there is usually no more than half a dozen bolts holding the bar on some of which will be existing chassis bolts.the only tricky bit can be the electrics.it used to be only a matter of connecting into the rear lighting,it may still be that on a 97 car especially if your only fitting single electrics for trailers as against twin electrics for caravans i.e. a 12N and 12S sockets.cars nowadays have a very complicated electric system.if in doubt buy both sockets pre-wired fit them to the bar.feed the cables through to the inside of the boot while your fitting the bar and then get someone else to wire them in.at least in this way you will be doing most of the job yourself. regards peter. |
