Alko towball on a V70

Im just double checking

ive ordered a fixed towbar on my new V70
My caravan has a Alko hitchlock which as I understand it is same as a normal towball but sticks out from the car further
I mentioned this to the dealer and hes sure it will be fine as most new trailers have Alko or similar systems but as ever there not the experts you guys are lol
am i right to worry?

Ive an Alko hitch on my van and it clears the bumper on my Xc90 no problems and was the same on the back of BMW 5 series too. Cant see it being that great a problem for you. Theyre not THAT much bigger than normal

the alko ball is longer and taller, as the alko stabalizer coupling is deeper and a longer front
it has been know if hitched to a standard ball to snap the ball.

On my car it seems to have a deep lip under the ball

Going to have to rip the ball of my car n drive it down to them i reckon get the mechanic look at it

but cheers i knew there was a diffrence ( and not only the cost of the damn ball)

Good Morning,

We have an alko hitch on our van and as mentioned the ball neck is longer. It sticks out further so that the hitch doesnt hit your bumper. There is no different to the ball itself, just the neck. My local fitter charges £21.50 for the alko ball. When we had the alko hitch fitted to the van it had the alko ball in the box.

PS my local towbar fitter has quoted £170 to supply and fit a Whitter two bolt towbar with Also Towball and Electrics. Add about another £50 if you want the detachable.

You will need one of these

if you have an Alko hitch fitted to your Caravan you will also need the cover to go with it & don't forget to remove any paint & grease from the ball before you use it (they must be totally grease free Unlike conventioal tow ball) otherwise the stabiliser wont do it's job.

I grease mine up when not in use to stop rusting & clean it off when I tow the van.

Im going to grease my new ball as one on current car despite having a cover rusts and i normaly rub it over with sand paper

gotta admit ive only a small van but the diffrence the Alko has made its worth every penny

Know what you mean about the al-ko. We used to have a Scott. Much prefer the al-ko

@Dazzlev70r don't forget to wipe the grease off before towing or the stabiliser wont work & it will need new pads fitted if they get contaminated with grease
