Default Brake light double bulb failure

This seems a bit strange but both brakelights have gone giving me a warning on the dash, the centre rear window mounted brake light is still on , I haven't had chance to investigate yet as it's dark but it seems a bit strange for both to go at once? Also I have been towing today but it has never happened before
Anyone got any ideas or is it just one of them things?

Sorry, don't have a solution yet, but my 2001 S80 has just started doing exactly the same thing. Wondering if there is some kind of relay/module for the standard brake lights.

Simplest thing to test is to swap them!

Could well me the lamp control, but 2mins to find out then worry!

Looks like a relay issue - theres quite a few posts on similar problems due to loose or failing relays.

Got mine sorted - was dodgy brake bulb relay (lives behind rear light cluster on a S80).
