Default Can hardly hear rear speakers!!!??

Still finding my may round my new Exec. Listening to the iPod, I think the premium sound is pretty good BUT front speakers much louder than the rears.

I notice this is exacerbated when the Dolby pro logic setting is selected. In fact, with the fader directing all the sound to the back speakers, you can hardly hear them! Is the Dolby surround meant to focus just on the front? If so, the trouble is, there is no "surround" effect, just front-facing.

Is this typical or maybe a glitch?

Have the same problem with my 2011 Exec.
The new "Premium Sound System" is inferior to the older version in my '53 XC90 SE which is diabolical in a top of the range model.

Dolby not intened for radio use or standard music files - if they are not dolby encoded you will get nothing from the rear speakers. Switch off the dolby function for USB and radio and it will be fine

Out of interest, what source material does come with the proper Dolby encoding?

Other "surround" systems give you all-round sound from a regular stereo image that seems to make more sense for a car system largely playing radio or CD/MP3/AAC or whatever.

I think the detail from the fronts is actually pretty good but they drown out the rears even the on normal setting.

I see from other threads people add sub-woofers but doesn't help the mid and high frequencies.
