Yes, but if you’re on a dual carriageway or motorway you wouldn’t kno2 if you’re dazzling cars from behind or flashing them as your lights constantly adapt based on the vehicles in front?

They obviously work, but I found it was like the lights were constantly dipping up, down and shadowing which for a car in front would b3 distracting?

There is a danger with the highest spec lights - you get used to them and you must have them on subsequent cars.........

I have wondered what the shadow technology headlights look like when they are doing their stuff. I suppose that they COULD be distracting to vehicles in front in 'busy' situations.

I have never had any problems. I am sure in 5 years I would be aware of any and they will have been extensively tested before during production.

I quite agree. A big reason I've not changed my MY17 Momentum (with active shadow lights as part of a winter pack) as I'd have to go to an Inscription Pro to get the active shadow lights, and don't want or need most of the other Inscription spec. Even looking at a V90CC plus as an alternative..

Having thought about this a bit (not just tonight!), I reckon there are two ways that the driver of the car in front might notice things happening:

1) Accidentally getting illumination straight into his rear view mirror -- but we already get that with cars behind going over bumps, or following you around a bend or suchlike, and their dipped beam briefly pointing at you. The Volvo adaptive (and I imagine every other one as well) leaves a decent margin around the lights of the car in front to help avoid that happening.

2) If the driver in front is really paying attention, they might notice the ground either side of and in front of their car sometimes being lit up a bit more than normal.

I notice when my car shuts off the nearside or offside adaptive main beam completely, when a car is more than about 30 degrees (I reckon) away from straight-ahead. I can't say that I've ever been able to decide, definitively, that a car coming towards me or following me has been using an adaptive main beam.

Same here.

I've been flashed once in 4+ years while using Adaptive Shadow and that was as I came over the brow of a hill so would've happened with conventional lighting anyway.

Whereas with out MY2020 XC60 our Active headlights on the fastest setting mean I got flashed about five times in 10 minutes on trialing them - so now they are switched off - they seemed to react about 2 seconds slower than a human can - I'm now wondering if they are faulty or just not fit for purpose...

Similar for me - lorry coming over the brow of a hill towards me, so the driver could see my lights, the sensor couldn't see his so main beam remained active --- until I switched it off. Personally I think the lights are brilliant, tho full main beam could do with a bit more reach
