My car came with up to date maps, when I picked it up.

I think that most of us who got new cars in 2016 had out of date maps installed.
When I collected my car in October, it had the April maps installed.

Not sure what is happening now, but I think then, large batches of Nav units were being flashed with the same map software at the factory.
This then left the owner/dealer to update them.

Due to the time involved, I never expected the dealer to do it.
Also, in 2016 there was a monthly update from around June to December.
I am sure this would have been very difficult, to ensure that every new car had the latest software installed.
Not every dealership has a super fast broadband connection.

Quite frankly I would expect them to do so. They have to download ca. 40GB max. once a month. That can run over the weekend without a soul watching.
They can put a external power supply on the car and let the update run over night when the shop is free. Again nobody needs to watch it.

Unfortunately that wouldn't work as Sensus always goes to sleep after a few minutes of non-use and the download and/or install then pauses.

What's needed is a way to keep Sensus awake for the duration of the update or to allow it to be performed as a background task even if the rest of Sensus is sleeping.

Agree with this, but also there must surely be a workshop mode for the vehicle which is used when the car is having software updates.

Basically, I think Volvo need to implement an easy route to allow dealers to do courtesy map updates when the vehicles are in.

There's been a couple of reports of faulty USB sockets with broken pins. Have you tried putting some music on a stick and playing it to check that Sensus is actually able to access it?

Have you got two USB ports? And do you get this problem with both ports?

Yes I have 2 Ports
Both work OK with Carplay and as instructed when I insert the USB Stick I remove anything from the other USB beforehand
I have read on Volvo site that cars since November 2015 require a Sensus software update before maps can be updated but as the dealer updated the Sensus to the new version before I collected I doubt that?
