I've had a automatic 1999 s80 with the 2.5 tdi Audi /Volkswagen engine in for over a year now ,love the freewheeling effect the autobox gives . jobs i.ve done include the cam-belt & idlers & auxiliary belt (with a new water-pump for good measure ) and recently done has been the rear brakes and handbrake shoes and cables (due to a recent mot fail for a complete lack of any effort , lol )alarm service still to do ( had batteries for at least 6 months now ) runs / starts first time every-time , Happy as a man can be with it , also got a vida/dice unit if anybody local needs to use .

I ended up buying a 2002 model, nice car though. Not as good looking as the older model in my opinion, but it goes well and the heated seats are great!

I ran a V70 TDi for about 4 years and loved it. I did not suffer any serious failures or issues with the car other than a front wheel bearing at 60,000 miles. Other, minor niggles were the tailgate liner becoming detached, which was easily repaired with a repair kit, and wiring to the tailgate lock and the drivers door, where the wires had broken within the part of the harness adjacent to the hinges. Average fuel consumption was about 45 mpg and I found the performance quite adequate for normal day to day use. The main reason I eventually changed it, was that we used to do a lot of continental caravan touring and, with the caravan we had at the time, it struggled a bit on mountain passes etc. also we live in quite a remote place, accessed up a very rough and muddy track so I decided to change to an XC70.

Hi there, you can also get the early P2 V70 with the TDi motor. Usually W, X or Y reg, up to early 2001. I had a W reg P2 TDi with 5 speed manual, great car. These ones are badged as 2.5D so people often confuse them with the later 2.4D which was a detuned D5.
Ours had 225,000 miles on the click when sold 4 years ago and I know it is still on the road now. The air conditioning still worked (possibly more robust than in the 850 shape) although I had some niggles with a pressure sensor behind the headlamp. The starter motor needed replacing on ours and the TDi has that at the rear under the exhaust so it's no fun to get to but other than that it was bulletproof. Oh and unlike the D5 it will happily drink chip oil. Best of luck in your search.
