Breakdown cover inc. recovery.
Apologies, but I think it was about this time last year when I raised this, and asked for advice on the best value for good service recommendations. My Green Flag cover must be due before long.
My requirements are for cover for cars driven by myself and my wife (oldest of the cars is 2003), and I certainly need to have the option of having the car recovered home rather than being repaired at a garage local to the breakdown. A couple of members recommended a company which had been a ' pay and claim back' cover and I didn't really want that, so eventually opted for Green Flag which was competitive at the time. It was then pointed out that this once pay and reclaim company had changed from the pay and claim and it would have probably suited my needs - but too late then! Wondered if members would be kind enough to help with their current recommendations. I don't really want to add this to my car insurance - as some do. Many thanks, Austin. |

By no means the cheapest but I'm with rac through the camping and Caravan club. £160 a year plus of course club membership £36.
This gives personal cover to myself and wife so covers any car we or one of us is in wether driver or passenger, it also covers the caravan and will even supply a driver to get the car and Caravan home in the event I am too ill to drive. For me it's value for money insurance, how good it is I don't know not having used it . Paul. |

I use Gem Motoring Assist. It’s a personal policy and rates are better than Green Flag, etc.

As posted above- highly recommended – all invoiced direct now i.e. you don’t pay outside the premium you have- It’s you and the wife that get insured- every car you own- any car that you are in ( it is not specific to any of the cars)

My daughter and I have separate cover by Green Flag through the Caravan and Motorhome Club “Mayday”. Repair at roadside or take to nearby repairer or take to your destination (to your holiday site and then back home after the holiday if repairs not possible whilst at holiday) plus supply driver if insured driver is incapacitated for some reason. Will also provide required equipment to recover from boggy field etc. if car cannot be driven off normally. Also cover mis-fuel which daughter had to use recently (much to her embarrassment). Fuel doctor attended the filling station, pumped out petrol, put in diesel and checked that engine was running correctly before leaving. I’m told that that alone would normally cost about £150 so annual subscription redeemed in that one incident.

I have now been with the RAC for over 10 years (having switched from the AA).
I have definitely used them well due to BMW's version of 'reliability' and once in 16 years for the Volvo. Never had an issue being recovered home or car taken to one of my personal list of garages. I doubt its the cheapest but they have always delivered the service I have needed.

car breakdown insurance etc
What about the VOC's preferred insurer offered by Chris Knott? Details are in each Driver magazine. I am thinking of getting quotes for my V90 my wife's MG Magnette and our house building and contents when renewal quotes arrive. Any thoughts?
