Default auto box sump dump

hi was wondering about doing a sump dump and thought it maybe an idea to use an oil extractor via the dip stick as anyone done this or just use the drain plug

halla lot easier to use sump plug

just careful refilling.

Using the drain plug gives you a better chance of getting the crud out from the bottom of the sump.

For a beginner, two difficulties with the sump drain: lifting the car safely on at least one solid jack stand positioned safely https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gtY-IZQgfw

Secondly, the sump drain bolt is a huge non standard size, somewhere around 24mm. No a wrench or socket in the standard sets. I used an adjustable wrench, but it may be too tight. A pipe wrench may also work.

Otherwise, no, sucking the fluid through the dipstick will take a day even with the fluid warmed up, but google about this 'flush' (mind you, he is not using the correct fluid, use either Mannol from Ebay Germany, Mobil 3309 or Toyota Type IV) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WfY8MQc1B8

People here are OUTSTANDING with the help offered. This easily goes double for oragex, my neighbor to the north.
Sucking through the dipstick is unacceptably slow.
Finding thin walled tubing, which will only shorten the torture a little bit, is impossible to do economically.

The drain plug is 24mm. If buying a 24mm combination wrench (open end and box end) will break the bank, better to sell your Volvo-or any other vehicle-now.

Take heart, Stanley makes a "Control-Grip" adjustable wrench which opens to 33mm. It's pn is 90-948. I just bought one for my brother in law.

The difficulties for a beginner "o" mentioned are real but manageable.

Do you have a floor jack, a wheel chock, stands, open style catch pan with spout, a plain funnel with an 8" (20cm) extension made from clear plastic tubing for refilling, a replacement 18mm aluminum crush washer and some rags?

I add to that supply list a packing blanket under everything to catch errant splatters. I maintain vehicles on a snowy white concrete driveway so I overkill on cleanliness.

Due to my drive's lateral incline I learned that having the LF (driver's side No. America) jack stand a tad higher than the other results in closer to 4 quarts draining instead of the usual 3.5. Since the fluid comes in either quart or liter bottles, why not do that?

Smile auto box oil

Did mine a while ago thro the dipstick tube--bit tedious but easy.
got 10lts of Manol from Germany-purchased sucker outer off ebay-then used a 4 pint milk carton to suck out and replace the same amount-ran for a week then did another lot-same again till all Manol used up. Been as smooth as silk since-not that it was bad before but nice and red oil now.
just need a long funnel with I piece of clear tubing grafting on to go down the dipstick hole and a little patience filling up-steady away lol

I bought an oil pump from lidl today for this exact purpose but how did you attach the pump to the battery since it's in the boot?

There’s a positive terminal under a cover near the fuse box if not the fuse box itself. Put the negative clamp to earth somewhere convenient. I used one of the Lidl pumps, it was fine.

As above, may use the ground connections in the engine bay or even better, the upper engine mount https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIZPC32iZVM
