Default Heater core

Over the last two days my windows have been steamed up dreadfully on the passengers side, and I haven tbeen able to clear it.

I checked all three scuttle drains, door drains, AC drain tube, and evaporator only to find those were not the source of it. Pulling up the carpet and removing the side panels made the leak plain as day and it seems my heater core has failed at the plastic join, as they all seem to do eventually.

Volvo wants stupid money for this (£150) but good quality aftermarket brands like Nissens and Hella are available for more like £40. I am wondering if anyone has experience with the aftermarket brands and so could recommend one to purchase.

Cheers,
Cookeh

Just done mine a a couple of months ago for the same reason.
Job can be done in about an hour and a half so easy enough.
As for makes, I went to Euro with mixed results.
I fitted a Bher one which is the same as what came out and it was utter crap, e.g. little heat output.
Although I don't suppose i need to say what country it was made in and it wasn't Germany...
I sent it back and fitted another brand and it seems better now. not as good as the original but good enough.
P.S. 150 quid isnt that dear for an original matrix although I woulkdn't pay that either on cars this old.

I've fitted heater matrices from Eurocarparts and regretted it. Best I found for price / performance was from Parts For Volvo on-line - they still list them at £36. Don't forget to source and fit new O-rings too.

I know Nissens make very good main radiators so see no reason their heater matrix should not be same quality.

Most I've had work great, just seems to be the ones I've got for my own car are a bit so so.

I fitted one from PFV, absolutely fine, no problems in the 2 years since I fitted it and an easy job to do.

As said the original core was, and still is, manufactured by Behr/Hella. I sourced my last from a seller on eBay.de and bought a box of assorted O-rings

The O-Rings are approximately 21 x 16 x 2.5mm
