Default Front hub oil seal.

My car 1987 740 gle with DBA front brakes requires a new wheel stud (I have) . To fit this I have to disassemble the hub and replace same. All info I have read says also replace the oil seal so I bought 2 from brookhouse(good service). On disassembly I find the oil seal to be a 2part assembly the part the Brookhouse have sent is 1 piece. Will this work ? is it an uprated part, it is a volvo part No 1329820.

Hylton, if the dimensions are the same then it should be fine. On my 1993 960 I recently had to replace a rear wheel bearing and Braydons, who get me all my parts, said that quite a few Volvo 2 part seals have been replaced by a single seal doing the same job. The original seal was two part and 2 diameters but the larger diameter has a metal ring covered with rubber and is tapped into the hub space. I think yours will be the same.

Are Braydons still going? Last I heard they had been absorbed by the local Volvo Dealer when they had to move out of their premises. They don't have a presence on eBay these days which is a bit of a shame as I have used them over the years. Cheers, Bob.

Oh yes Bob, they are still in full swing but they trade under the name of Sentinel Cars, which I think Braydons own.
Have a word with Steve who will put you in the picture...and they are fully on line but not necessarily under the Braydon name....I think its Trust Car Parts. I use the old Braydons phone number 02089852255 and I always get through to either Steve or Bob. I always phone them up first, discuss the part, and it will usually arrive the next morning. Excellent.
Cheers
Garth

Thanks for that Garth. Have had dealings with Steve in the past and I knew Sentinel bit, but hadn't got the faintest about Trust Car Parts. Now you have mentioned it I can see the name/contact on the internet. Unfortunately they don't seem to have a website just phone contact.

Anyway now I know the people are still about I may give them a call in the future. Guess they have turned into something a bit like FRF.

Cheers, Bob.
