I'm guessing the nasty brown car didn't sell on Car and Classic and is being hawked on eBay again:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Barn-Find....c101198.m1985

Still 3 grand for a £1,000 car - it must have been on sale for 6 months so far :-)

PS. It has indeed been 5 months since the nasty brown car was first spotted in this thread (17 December, but perhaps it had been for sale for some time before that):

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...&postcount=161

... the seller has reduced the price from £3,500 in that time. One has to admire the seller's persistence (but not his/her common sense).

No Alan. That does not prove you wrong.

Be happy.

That only proves that those people who bid or did/do not bid, have their own opinions.

Perhaps for their own reasons.

Not necessarily! It's currently (with about 1h45m to go) at £4000 but check the bid history! Several bidders with low feedback have been bidding since the start of the auction, i sniff a shill!

Analys of bids is not an exact science.

It is interesting that two bidders have each offered £4,000.

Each lifting the bidding significantly. (A co-ordinated effort could leave egg on face syndrome for someone... )

Perhaps they have the same idea as to what the car is worth, to them?

I smell cowshed confetti!
So just to comment on the glt, it is a very nice car actually, it sold last year for around 3.5k to the guy that has it now. I was interested then. I have had a few discussions with the guy selling now, but I don’t think it’s worth 6k probably high 3k to just over 4K.
He has indeed bought a scimitar, I have seen pics, cars over 40 year old are free of ULEZ. So I think it’s all legit, just think the 6k is a daydream!

The winning bid, £4,200, appears to be a snipe, seconds before the auction ended. Unless there is something underhand, and I am NOT suggesting anything underhand ... then perhaps most likely a buyer saw what they wanted and bid deliberately late up to the maximum they perhaps were wiling to pay. Their full bid might have been more, that's how eBay works init.

Interesting as to prices, and possibly as to values.

Stephen.

That is interesting.

Thank you.

As for the 6k .... well .... possibly a "price" to test the water or to work down from .... ?

The Scimitar cited in the listing is a GT/C that wasn't launched until 1980 so that puts an even more suspect point of view on it. Unless the one he bought was one of the very earliest GT/Cs then he's still not in the Historic Vehicle bracket.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reliant_Scimitar

I know plans are still afoot to push classics over 40 years out of London (and potentially other cities) so keep your eyes peeled for a Scimiatar GT/C coming up for grabs!

... I was a bit surprised that car made £4,200 - that was very strong money.

In fairness, it was a strong car - no obvious faults, good MoT history and very clean bodywork. Hopefully gone to a private buyer so it doesn't reappear at £9995 on fleabay and haunt the pages therein for months on end!
