1972 1800ES auto For Sale
I'm looking for a new project, so Monica, my 1972 1800ES is for sale.
She's a 1972 2 litre automatic, blue-green metallic with tan leather interior, and in excellent all-round condition. Everything works, including the Smiths clock and the original Blaupunkt radio. Mileage shows as 12,700, although the true mileage is approximately 40,000. A new speedo was fitted in the late 1980s. Tax-exempt as an Historic Vehicle, with MoT until April 2010.I've a box file full of old receipts and paperwork. Monica's brakes, ignition and fuel system were overhauled through 2007/8, prior to being put back on the road earlier this year after having been dry-stored since 2002. There have been three previous owners, and I've owned her since June 2007. She's advertised on Car and Classic at £4750 ono. Car is located in Yorkshire, not far from the A1 / M1 / M62 junction east of Leeds. Cheers Jack |

1800ES for Sale
Further to the previous post, I tried editing but I've been timed out!
I'd like to add that I'd consider a part-ex for a 140, 160, or maybe an interesting 240 or a 480. Plus, having never sold a car on E-bay, can someone give any advice on the best way to go about it, and which of their extras to use? I started working through their listings process, and got a bit baffled! If there are any experienced E-bayers who can pass useful tips on listing, timing, price-setting, photo up-loading etc then I'd be really pleased to hear from you! Cheers Jack |

Hi Jack, where abouts are you exactly? I would willingly come over and help you list Monica on ebay....

Hey Steve, that's really good of you to offer, although I wouldn't want to put you to any trouble. (I live near Selby by the way).
I've had another look at E-bay and I reckon that even at my age (!) I can manage it, but if you've time to cast an eye over the finished article on-line then I'd really appreciate it. I'll let you know when the listing goes 'live'. I had a critical look at car ads that attracted lots of bids, and compared them with those that didn't. Hopefully I learned some lessons - and have put them into practice! I tell you what would be great though, for my next project I've an eye out for a good 140, 160 or 240 saloon, so if I could prevail upon your expertise as and when I find suitable candidates it would be fantastic - and probably save me from making a mistake. Final thing: I put an ad on Car and Classic at £4750. Do you think this is a realistic valuation? Again, sincere thanks for your help, and your really kind offer Cheers Jack |

Capt Jack,
Get a 164. You know you want to! I think the valuation on the ES is very fair, a good buy for someone I think. I don't know a lot about 240s, but I'd be happy to advise on a potential 140/164 purchase, if needed. Here's my top 5 things to look out for:
If you are looking in the same £4-5000 price range, you should be able to get a really A1 car. Cheers John |

Jack, glad to hear you think youve sorted it - although if you do want a hand, it wouldnt be any trouble really. Im happy to advise on 240s, although I think with 240s if there isnt any serious rust and its got a lowish mileage and decent history then there wont be much to go wrong...
If you're happy to wait for the right car to come along and you're happy to search left right and centre, you should get an absolutely mint 200 series for <£1500

John you are soooo right!
I saw a beautiful 164 at the Northern BKV, and absolutely smitten! Budget wise it depends - we'll see what happens. My E-bay listing is:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volvo-1800ES-2...d=p3286.c0.m14 Hope I've got this link thing right! Thanks and best regards to all Jack PS: As with the 1800, the key in a word is....RUST! Some bids already. That's what you want to generate more interest.
Good luck John |
