Just brace yourself for all the messers on ebay. You might find that the bidding will go up to what you want without a single person viewing it. Then they never turn up or try to haggle you down because the car is never as good in the flesh as the photos suggest. If you can sell outside of ebay, even if it was for slightly less it would probably be worth it

This is turning into a slightly surreal experience, it's true!

I've got a feeling that Ebay may not work out - we'll see.

Cheers

Good luck with the sale. I am looking for one of these, but must firstly offload either a 131 Amazon (1969) in very good condition, needs a few new panels to make perfect (which I have) or

a 244 (1979 model) This car is like new inside, has a new windscreen, 4 new dunlop tyres, wheels shotblasted and repainted, SS Exhaust, FSH. Body very good, ut needs 2 new wings which are supplied (bottoms corroded out ) and bit of welding to rear wheelarches. Mechanically perfect - no leaks, drives like new - just needs bodywork. I have no time to finish. Wings and paint supplied.

I would be keen to move either car. If your ebay listing does not work I would be keen to talk

Default E-bay listing

I'm aware that many folk on here have been following my E-bay listing. As some had predicted the E-bay listing has gone wrong. I'm concerned that my e-mail security and identity may have been hi-jacked.

I've cancelled the E-bay listing, but there doesn't seem to be any means on there of announcing the reason. I am very unimpressed with Ebay Motors!

My apologies to any Ebay watchers.

Cheers

Default Re-listing on Ebay

Thanks to all for the interest in my 1800ES.

I'm happy to say that the computer and e-mail problem is now resolved, and the car is re-listed. E-bay item number is 140344011861.

I was warned on here that E-bay is a bit of a nightmare, and so it has been.

Hopefully all will progress smoothly this time.

Thanks again

Best of luck this time.

Some people do have horror stories about ebay but, by way of encouragement, I have sold several cars and other items on ebay and most have gone perfectly smoothly, I've never had a serious problem.

So there are plenty of decent, genuine ebayers out there. Hopefully you'll have several of those bidding for the ES.

Are you still advertsing on Car and Classic? I couldn't see it on there. Yours looks good value compared with most of the older Volvos on there, by the way.

Cheers

John

Thanks John.

The problems on Ebay arose because my inbox was rapidly overwhelmed with messages from various European buyers, asking all sorts of questions, mostly about how much would I take for a quick sale.

That the ad was also on Car and Classic only added to the e-mail log-jam.

It quickly reached a point where I couldn't receive any more messages, post a reply or edit the listing to say 'please don't ask me to sell off-auction'! The root of the problem was probably the limitations in the e-mail software - and the limit of my cyber-competence!

I couldn't get any sense from the Ebay help pages.

In the end I thought the best option was to re-list, this time with a Buy-it-now price and a slightly re-worded description. This seems to have worked because the bidding is back where it was, and the message situation much calmer!

Having spoken with a few folk now, it seems because the Euro is strong, UK classic cars are quite cheap to a European buyer, added to which the ES is worth far more in Europe than here anyway, especially in Holland. A good one here goes for about a third of the price of a similar left-hooker across the water. Someone senses a big profit I reckon!

Several potential buyers have indicated that they'd even convert the car to LHD!

Now who would do a crazy thing like buy a car overseas and try to convert it..............!!!!!????

Thanks for your interest and encouragment. I'm sure you're right in what you say about the Ebay community at large!

Cheers

Smile And finally...!

Monica is now SOLD and will shortly be on her way to a new life in the sun.

Her new owner is a real Volvo enthusiast I'm very pleased to say, and I wish him well with the new lady in his life!

To anyone considering selling a car on Ebay I would say be prepared for some frustrating and fruitless tours around the Ebay 'Help' pages. They are completely unhelpful. There are a number of pitfalls within the Ebay system and I reckon I tripped over just about every one of them.

I sincerely apologise to any VOC or forum member who tried to contact me or to place a bid and couldn't, or didn't get an answer. It isn't my way to ignore people or be unfriendly.

Now, has anyone got a nice 164 for sale?

Cheers
