£400 would be a good price, I paid £350 for a rear section on my P1 V70 from volvo, supply only and that was 6 years ago.

I have always worked on the principle that it is not broken unless it has been welded at least 3 times.

Paul.

It's booked in with a local place who have taken a sensible approach and will fabricate and weld replacement hangers. Thanks for the replies.

I had the same problem on my S80, which caused the exhaust to rattle as a result. So I went to a local garage just down the road from me & they put it up on the ramp. It was clear as day what the problem was, but the chap out of the reception decided to come & have a look too. He said "You need a new exhaust mate", but the mechanic stopped him in his tracks & said "Why, just fabricate a replacement piece & weld it in place". They didn't seem particularly interested in doing it though & gave the usual excuse of being really busy for a few weeks, although there were hardly any cars in the garage that day or subsequently the days after either as I was passing by? I felt that was just a way of fobbing me off, probably because they weren't making much money out of it & couldn't be bothered.

Anyway, I found another garage that did the job for for £25 & were much more willing shall we say.

Don't want you guys to think that I'm profligate about replacing exhausts. It's just that the corrosion on the picture looked quite bad and if it's like that on the outside, it may be worse on the inside. OP can see the whole system, and make his judgement but my experience is that a well made bespoke stainless system can actually cost less than the OEM mild steel unit and once fitted will last longer than the rest of the car!

My experience over the last 15 years was that I had a couple of the same model car and just swapped over the system when I wrote off one of them so my exhaust cost me £350 for 15 years and was still like new when I sold the last car. Perhaps that tends to condition my thinking and welding the old system back until the car is sold is more economical but I tend to look at my cars as very long term which is why when I changed marques, I bought a Volvo!
