Apart from the EGR cooler the cleanest 2014 engine I've seen!

Glad you got the work paid for by Volvo. I'm in a similar situation. Snows Volvo Southampton telling me the good will program expired in 2019 for my EGR issue with my 2014 V60 D4. Who was your contact at Volvo UK that got you this result of having the work paid for? What did you say to them? I tried talking to Volvo UK customer service and they just said it needs to go through local dealer who will contact their retailer team about good will. But Snows is saying it expired in 2019.. So any hints for getting a better result would be appreciated!

Following as in similar position. 2015 XC60 which need egr valve and cooler replaced. Diagnosed by Volvo crawley. Asked for goodwill but they said it expired in 2019. They have sent a request for a goodwill anyway but still waiting to hear back.

Cleaned mine recently. I tried acetone, some treatment from Halfords (£15) and Mr Muscle oven cleaner. The latter was the most effective and the cheapest. For those of us stuck with the original and no chance of goodwill gesture, it’s fiddly and messy but really only needs doing once a year for the MOT.
Mine had been cleaned just before I bought it and it throw up the code within three thousand miles/ six months. Nice car so I’m prepared to live with this inconvenience.

If that Mr Muscle is touching aluminium parts that's probably bad news for your car. The stuff is packed with caustic soda, which literally disolves aluminium in a chemical reaction. Might look cleaned but surface will be compromised. Do a test with Mr Muscle and aluminium foil if you need convincing.

Is the EMAP pipe a part of the EGR system on the 2.0 D4 e.g if the EGR was mapped out and blanked does it render the EMAP redundant too? I'm not planning on doing this but I'm planning on taking it all apart over the weekend following the YouTube videos and want to know should u change the EMAP toi

Wow!! This thread is huge and I’ve had a look but can’t quite find specifics that match my problem so please bare with. I’m sure it’s EGR related and would really appreciate a 2nd opinion.

The car is a 2014 V70 D4 Diesel, maintained and serviced by Volvo to 90k miles, clock now showing 110k miles on the clock. Up until this last couple of weeks it has run like a dream. The symptoms are synonymous with sticking EGR, slight hesitation when cold but no issues when under load still warming up and pulls consistently through the revs. I’ve had no warning light or limp mode kicking in and once the engine is warm, she continues to run like a dream. MPG has always been good and the car just eats the miles on a run. I’m really very fond of this car.

Without stripping everything off to get to the EGR and cooler, I unclipped the cover from the underside of EGR and the arm moves freely. Having also bought an ELM327 diagnostic tool and connected it to the excellent car scanner app, EGR reporting seems normal. It did throw up a couple of fault codes, one being oil level too high which I’ll sort easy enough but the other one was P2009(00) ‘Intake Manifold Air Control Actuator’. Is that related to my problem do you think? I pulled and cleaned the inlet manifold pressure sensor which was a bit sooty but nothing scary. Doing an Italian tune up seemed to help as well – I have been driving it gently to try and max the MPG on a drive down to Portugal.

Love to hear your thoughts, thanks very much for reading.

I currently have the exact same P2009 code and symptoms you've mentioned. I took it to Volvo and they said it needs a new intake manifold. Apparently they used to cover them under goodwill be not anymore unless it has melted (this is what my dealer told me). I haven't booked mine in but I believe the manifold is about €450 and two hours of labour

About 4 hours for me then

Hey Mascher, thanks for the comeback. Not what I was expecting but I certainly take it all on board.

Whilst looking up the part I came across this which is interesting:

https://www.enginepartsuk.net/volvo-...inlet-manifold

I bought my Volvo from a Snows Dealership in September 2021 (wonderful experience to be fair) who had had it for quite a while due to the pandemic - If memory serves I think they'd had it for the best part of 18 months but will need to check that out. I'll call them and find out if they did it. And in all honestly, the manifold does actually look 'younger' than the age of the car.

A V70 owner here, looking for next car. Current car is 205ps se lux premium auto. The D4 with the auto is looking tempting, but is it worth the risk, with the known issues? I have avoided until now, but lower tax, better mpg, euro 6 means is more tempting. Unfortunately no euro 6 d5 in the v70
