Default V90 Rear Bumper removal

Hi guys, does anyone have access to a workshop manual or know how the rear bumper on a V90 comes off. Due to my own stupidity I need to replace one of the rear light clusters. Not only does a bunch of interior trim need removing but so does the bumper...... any pointers welcome.

Thanks

No help only encouragement.

When I had my rear bumper replaced about a year ago it was an insurance job. Dropped the car off at the repairers and within a couple of minutes two fitters had it off. Unfortunately it happened in the time it took me to enquire where the nearest greasy spoon was so didn't see how they did it. They didn't use force or any obvious tools. Got back after a quick cup of tea and the job was done. It cost the insurance company about £1200 and the case is still going through the courts. The one point I did pick up was that it needed two of them.

Good luck

Frank

You will find details in these towbar fitting instructions, obviously you only need the bumper removal bit.

Follow the instructions for towbar fitting that nu11eaf has provided, you only need stages 28 to 38 to remove the existing bumper.

Interior trim removal instructions to access the actual lamp mounting points are not shown in those instructions but presumably gentle leverage with good quality trim removal tools should work.

I too had a damaged rear lamp and bumper on my V90 following 'hit and scarper' incident by someone in a car park. I put it through insurance as it was a brand new car at the time. The bumper came pre-painted from Sweden so the repair was extremely quick, 3 days from memory, including waiting for the bumper to be air freighted from Gothenburg to Warrington!

Thanks guys, towbar instruction are great lateral thinking. I am sure the trim inside will be ok.

Car is only 10months old and for the sake of a few hours work I need not resort to insurance. How I managed to back in to something with parking sensors and the 360 degree cameras.......

Thanks for the help

Have you got BLIS?

That will add another dimension to the replacement.

Yes I do but it should be ok. I don’t actually need to take the bumper right off, just edge it back a little on one side enough to release the light cluster.

All done, instructions are perfect for removing the taillight assembly. The interior trim has to come out to so the full instructions are appropriate. In changing the unit I notice the indicator light is still a traditional bulb not an LED. That means if the bulb fails you have to remove the whole unit to replace the bulb. There is no access with it in situ. Hope the bulb does not fail. 2hrs start to finish.....

Interesting, thought the rear indicators on the V90 were LED. So when I drive to France, I still require a bulb kit.

Has anyone changed a rear bulb or removed the light cluster on an XC90 ?, if so how do you access the light cluster. Just in case. It looks like there may be a quicker way than the V90. With tailgate open the light cluster looks to be floating off the body work and just attached top and bottom. There is an air bag cover in the corner inline with the light cluster.
