Default Shocker conversion

Hi I would like to hear from anybody who has carried out a conversion from Nivomats to standard rear shocks and springs on a 700 / 900. series. I am contemplating this conversion on a 900 and would appreciate any feedback advice. Thanks.

Is this for the live-axle or the Multilink axle?

If it's for the Multilink (or IRS) axle then I don't know of anyone who has done it yet on this side of the pond.

If it's for the live-axle then just replace the Nivos with ordinary shocks and swap the springs to ordinary springs at the same time. Both are available from GSF/Eurocarparts etc.

If it is for the IRS set-up, I suspect that you would need to get the stronger leaf spring that I got.
It will need to be swapped as the Nivo version will provide absolutely no support for the shocks at all..
You'd then need to get your standard shocks (or some performance equivilent) to replace..

Rupert can slap me about a bit if I am wrong..

It's live. Is it a straight swap. Bushes on shocks same diameter and width?

Hi,

Yea, but make sure you replace the springs.
Self leveling ones are weaker than standard and will now provide the support required with standard shocks..

Aye, a straight swap.

There is a wide choice available to you depending on what you want. You ca get standard oil filled shocks, gas shocks, or sports gas shocks (typically £20, £25 and £40-£75each). You can get standard springs, heavy duty springs and lowering springs.

If you don't do much towing or carrying of heavy loads then I'd reccomend gas shocks and standard springs. £100ish should cover it and it should take about an hour to fit if all the bolts etc come undone.

P.S. A long extension bar is handy for reaching up to undo the spring mounting bolt.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. Yes the car is used mainly for towing. Any recomendations? Thanks.

Hi,

If this is used mainly for towing, whay the change from Nivo's??

You can always use another adjustable shock (auto or manual) thats not Nivo, can't remember the name of them now..
If going this route use standard springs..

Or get heavy duty and gas shocks..
