Black Grill
Hi there,
I have been wanting to get my grill blackened but was looking for some advise before I start. The grill in the photo below (not my photo or grill) is the exact style I am after. Original chrome rim and black grill fins with the original logo/chrome trim. How would I go round doing a good long lasting job. Any particular paint, undercoat and/or would it need pre-sanding??? Any help would be great. Sorry, but I don't really have much knowledge on painting car grills. (first time) Thanks Rich |

i've done mine
hi,
I've recently done mine ( will post pics later ) all black and no chrome. Here's the steps I used 1. good wash with soapy water using a soft brush. 2. then let dry over night 3. 3 coats of Halfords grey primer 4. 3 coats of Plastic black spray Paint ( exact name to follow) 5. finally 4 coats of clear Lacquer make sure to allow plenty of drying time between the coats of primer, paint and Lacquer hope this helps brendan

Am thinking of doing mine as well, or getting another off fleabay to do in case I **** it up. Was thinking of using smooth Hammerite but in all fairness the above method would probably be better. Unless I find one that's allready been done lol

Before & Imposed After
Here I have taken a picture of my grill before and edited after. The after picture is not real. I have edited the photo using Microsoft Paint by filling in using black.
I think it will look awesome when done!!! 1st Before 2nd After |

I was thinking of making a mess grill for my 850 but this is even better. Thanks for the idea.
