Default Wont Rev over 2000 revs

Please can anyone help me. I bought this 2004 V50 Esate 2.0 S D Manual 4 weeks ago. I have been driving the car now for 2 weeks. At a standstill foot on the accelerator the maximum the car will rev is 2000 revs. You set off from a standstill 1-2-3-4 and the pick up is so slow. 4th gear is a pain get it into 5th around 50mph and then 6th On the motorway its okay maximum speed 80mph thats it, 2000revs. Today I set off from a standing start to hit an hill 1 in 4 I nearly had to push it up. I have had the codes read when I bought it at a garage and they came up with 40 errors which they cleared. I disconnected the air flow sensor and the car would not go over 20mph. The car is running real smooth no smoke no misfires no lumpy judders its just the revs. I have not cleaned the throttle body as I am not sure how to do it. I wondered if this problem could be a pump problem. Has any body any ideas on how to alleviate the problem one task at a time and if it is the pump any idea what make it would be and can you get a refurbished pump and were is the best place to go. I need reliability and at the moment this car is far from that. Can anybody please help as I am at a loss with this car? Thank you in anticipation. Roda.

Could be anything, what were the codes?

I lost power as you did and it was the 2 rubber pipes off the dpf that went hard and blew apart.. £2.99 on a meter of pipe and some fuel hose claps and it was sorted...

OK you've had the codes cleared, which seems sensible if there were that many as a lot were hopefully historic, now it's time to have them read again to see what has shown up.

My limp mode was caused by a iffy connection on the CEM ( which I have found to be a cure of most things, so much so,that my mobile phone just wrote the sentence itself with its predictive text thingy!!) Takes half an hour and it's free to do. :-)

Default Volvo V50 SD not revving over 2000revv

Thank you all for your quick response. I do not know what the 40 error codes were they just cleared them I think one of them was oxygen sensor but not really sure. I have taken on board all your comments and will follow them up tomorrow. I will let you know when I find out what the problem is.

Thank you all.

Roda.
