I believe you have the d19t266 engine which is the no-egr version, 68kw, like mine's.
Yes, marked with 1 is the lever. It shoud be a bit shiny where i made the sign. |

The actuator does not seem to have any 'shiny' bit when engine switched off so may be that might be the issue. Anyway taking car home tomorrow night and then have a look properly. Want to try the 'cheaper' ways first before going for the expensive fuel pump. Car has only done just over 86000 miles now. |

Having problems with the fuel delivery, probably you had no or little boost, so you shouldn't be too worried about that lever.
Maybe you're lucky and there's just a stuffy fuel tank. |

Some investigation done
Did a bit of investigation work last night with the help of a friend.
Firstly, there is no bleed nipple on the filter or housing, the top nut holds the filter and housing in place . The bleed nipple on the pump (red arrow) when loosened slightly jetted diesel as if under pressure. Stop solenoid (yellow arrow) is what I replaced. Blue arrow is, I think, the fuel return pipe to the tank. It seems that there is air getting into the system as the plunger on the fuel filter goes soft after a run as it needs 1 or 2 pumps to become stiff again. My friend thinks that the air is causing there to be extra fuel to be pushed through into the cylinders. However I think it may be air rather than fuel at the injectors. More investigation to go on over the weekend. |

Have you replaced the priming pump on top of the fuel filter???
Its quite a common fault and allows air into the system. It should really be on the service schedule as its quite common. My brothers car went through 2 of them. You can purchase them from motor factors/general car spares. You dont have to buy from volvo dealer. From a factors i think the last one cost me about £30 but this was about 4 years ago. If car spare places have no listing for the volvo, ask for the primping pump for Renault 19 1.9TD its identical. Don't forget to get new copper crush washers for the fuel lines either side. The new priming pump unit should come with the. If you do find its the diesel injector pump, i have one as i kept the good one when i scrapped my brothers car when it lunched its gearbox. I think i got the injector pump swap down to about 2 hours time when i did them. I've kept it in the vain hope of spotting a 400 series diesel with dead injector pump, and then swapping it over and creating myself a nice little economical commuter. |

Wary of ebay as got one from there that failed after 3 day. Thanks for help. the web site gave a price of about £10 for it. Spoke to the specialst and he has one in stock £25 and has been put aside for me to collect Monday. Will collect and fit a new filter as well to be on the safe side. Update again.
New fuel filter housing and filter fitted (delphi 9001-??? part £30 all told) took about 30 minutes. Only issue is the new fuel housing has been updated to be either right or left handed but a few minutes is all it took to sort out. Bled system as best I could but there is still a little bit of air in it but seeing a mechanic tonight so it will be sorted. Pump primer on housing stays hard after a run where before you could push it all the way in after 3 minutes or so. It still is slightly hesitant at times but sure that just the last bits of air bubles in the fuel line between the filter and the injectors. Spent a good 30 minutes tryign to remove it all but it should be all done tonight. |

It now seems to be working OK now.
Bled checked everything over again before bleeding again. Found one of the blanking nuts was weeping slightly and the filter bolt could be tighten a bit further. Think these are settling down issues. Did a 40 mile run on various roads and no hesitation felt or hiccupping so all seems well with the Volvo now |

Will be keeping an eye on the filter assembly and will check it every few days to allow it to completely settle down. |
