Well Jim I got the unit today and installed it ! The indicators are working fine but the wipers not. The changes apart from the obvious indicators now working are that with this unit the back wiper goes constantly when reverse is selected even when the switch is off! Also the washers have now stopped working on the front but still ok on the back! I again have checked the fuses as in 6 and 9 they are ok. Any suggestions ?

Ok lets run through this ...
try testing this out please lower drivers window down a couple of inches (5cm) and open the moonroof , now stand outside and close the drivers door and hold the key in the locked position , the window and moonroof should close. When you say the wipers dont work what exactly do you mean. The rear wiper => turn on ignition and select reverse the rear wiper should not work. It should only work when the front wipers are switched on and the reverse gear selected. Of course the rear wiper should also work from the stalk as well. If the rear wiper is working when the reverse gear is selected and everything else is in the off position then pull fuses 17 and 23 if you have a 26 fuse fusebox. Let me know what happens if your car has a 32 fusebox then first check fuse 6 and 30 if ok then pull fuse 9 and let me know ....... For the rear wipers they are particularly prone to shorts at the thick rubber connector running between the body and the rear hatch do a careful visual check on that. I also suggest the you move this over to the 480 club europe site as between everybody we will be able to solve this problem as few 480 owners come on here as it is mainly 440/460 s here. I am also glasgowjim on that site as well |

Great news the indicators are working! I'm sure the wiper issue will be something simple.
Chris...

Ok Jim awaiting verification on the europe site in the meantime I have tried all the above The roof and window closes as normal with the key held. When I say the wipers do not work I mean they where stopped in the upright position and no matter what way I move the stock they fail to function. The back wiper with the stock in the off position and the sliding switch in the off on the stock it still operates when reverse is selected. Its a 32 box with obviously due to model not all filled I have checked the fuses and all in order. I have checked the back wiper wire loom and with the protector still on it and absolutely no sign of any wear or tear. I should state this car is in excellent condition even though it is 18 yr old and has only 23000 genuine miles it got very little use.

The window check was just to double check the cem as it is a cem function.
Concentrating on the front wipers..... Now we know its not a fuse a short in rear loom the cem the stalk by a process of elimination you need to check the wiper motor at the front firstly check if the motor is getting any power - use a multimeter then disconnect the plug (uncover the plastic clip on cover and check the plug for corrosion as well). If there is power going into the motor at the correct time then check the motor itself as it may have died by running a line from the battery terminals to the motor and see if it works. |

Oh Jim I think we have trouble ! Anyway firstly the motor and all plugs are as new and ultra clean contact I am attaching a photograph of such. So I removed the plug coming from the motor and ran a power source direct from the battery and the wipers are working. Then I just checked the plug from the loom with a tester bulb and movement of the stalk had neither light come on or wipers going! So thats the stage I am at now.

So there is no power going into the wiper stalk . Check if power is going in and then out of the stalk if power is going in but not out then try bridging with a wire to get the wipers to function . |Let me know what progress you make. Last edited by glasgowjim; Apr 14th, 2012 at 23:39. |

Sorry that was a bit misleading my prior post in that I removed the plug on the bottom at the wiper motor and placed the wires in appropriate plug to a tester lamper working the stalk and no power was apparent. The stalks in place at the moment are those I got from yourself.
