New Gearbox
Hi - we've just been told our automatic Volvo 460 P reg needs a new gearbox which will set us back 2k - im fairly certain the car isnt worth that much! It had a new gearbox 5 years ago has only done about 35000 miles if that so we're wondering how it can possibly need a new gear box again??
any ideas? also is 2k about right for a new gearbox? |

Is it a cvt or a ZF auto box? The cvt is notorious weak, they last only around 60kmls normally and are expensive to repair. The ZF boxes last at least twice as long. To remove and install it takes around a day of labour plus the cost of a new box. So or look out for a secondhand ZF and if it's a cvt take your loss. I wouldn't bother in repairing a cvt, they're not worth spending money on them IMHO.

It has to be the CVT as you say lucky to get 70000 miles out of one . The conventional ZF 4 speed auto box lasts forever ... Might be viable to convert to one of these from used parts ..
