new cam belt
just treated the old 460 2.0i to a new belt. The old one had been on there 9 yrs and done 48k, the guide is to replace every 6yrs or 60k.
I was stunned to see the old belt looked as good as new, no missing teeth, no cracks, no nothing. Anyway, i am enjoying my new relaxed driving not waiting to hear a ping/crunch/grinding, and a trip to the scrappy to swap the old beast for a fifty pound note. |

Just out of interest mate, how much did it cost you? I had mine done on a 15 year old 2.0i, it had never been done before
Mine, like your came out looking like new, BUT flexing it the opposite way to it's natural run exposed several areas of perforated rubber, glad i had it done, like you say, piece of mind! |

well, i know a very good local mechanic and we agreed on the sum of £100 which included the new belt too. Its not the sort of job i would ever attempt. i am capable of some minor things, just popped in a new set of ferrodo's on the front for £23, super easy job, just one bolt to undo and lift the caliper upwards to replace the pads.

That's a good price, think i coughed up £175 inc belt, thought it was a good price at that. Harrats quoted something daft like £600 or more.
Nice pads! front are ok to change, so long as the guide pins haven't siezed, wait until you try the back set! EDIT, think i should mention, all the stuff I can't do myself I get done @ p.w volvo in Sheffield, they always sort me out and do very good rates, especially for a specialised garage, and also do a top job. I paid £170 for the full cam belt and tensoners too. Fitted to my 1.9td. For that price tho next time I would want to be taught how to do it in the process!

460 1.8 cvt
Hi,
I've just bought a 1.8 460 with CVT for 500 quid - only got 61000 miles on the clock, but I'm thinking I should do the cam belt. What is the normal service interval for this? Will it have been done already (car has been well serviced by previous owner). How much should I expect to spend? thanks.... |

The normal interval for changing the cambelt is 60.000miles or 72 months. When you're not sure if it's done get it done is my advise. If it brakes it will cost you probably a new set of valves and if you're really unlucky a couple of pistons too! Best is to change the complete set, cambelt AND roller plus tensioner. If the roller or tensioner seizes it will cut through your brand new belt.
