spotted on auction site - roof chopped 240 V8 estate

It's a 240 estate with:
1. roof chop
2. pickup truck boot added
3. V8
4. painted bright yellow with garish stickers

It's not everyone's taste - imagine you take one of the most sedate car designs around and go crazy with it.

Personally, I like my cars bland and beige, but I appreciate it this as a piece of work in that it adds to the 'eco system'.

That’s going to come a cropper one day with the DVLA. With that amount of modification (cutting the shell) it’s going to need an inspection if it gets caught.

You have to be slightly off the normal scale to do that in the first place. I'd prefer to keep it as a sleeper, completely standard looking rather than chop a lot of metal out of it and convert it to a 4-seater pick up truck.
If using the Rover V8 i would have gone for a late SD1 unit with the higher compression heads, better water pump and preferably fuel injection from an EFI model.

Many reasons for this as well as the two i've cited but these days i would have gone for an early Lexus LS 400 4.0 V8 and the AW71 gearbox (Toyota/Lexus call it something different - A340E - in the Lexus but it's the same box apart from minor details that can be changed to suit the Volvo) and either used the Lexus loom & ECU or an aftermarket fuel injection ECU and probably fit LPG to it as well, some aftermarket ECUs offer multiple maps that can automatically switch so LPG would be a seamless change in operation.

That said, if it floats his boat then all good for him but he's selling it so presumably no longer floats his boat!

It was for sale about a year ago and the same photos have been used.

Atleast they have actually registered the engine change with the DVLA, the rest obviously hasn't been declared and from those MOT advisories it is obviously running on either badly cut springs or springs from something else that don't fit properly for it to be noticed like that. Due to the note about corrosion my money is on cut springs that have been cut way too much.
