VOLVO Recall 2020 (seat belts)

I have the same dodgy buckle issue with my 64-reg V70.

The recall doesn’t sound like that, however. More that the seat belt could come adrift where it’s anchored to the car. Shame! However, perhaps the fix will be a new anchor AND buckle.

Did someone say “Dream on.” ?

I don't think the recall is about the buckle side, there is some info on the Volvo website suggesting the problem may occur in the other end, door side.

Wouldn't that depend on whether the belt was on the driver's side or the passenger's side. Unlike a lot of cars, Volvo cross belt straps run the same way for both driver and passenger and so on one side the latch fastening is by the door and on the other it is by the centre tunnel. Which component are Volvo saying might be faulty?

My car (S80) & my Dad's V70 are affected. So, is it just a case of phoning the dealership & booking it in? Presumably, only a Volvo dealership can investigate/sort the issue, not an independent Volvo garage?

I've already done that it it is going to take them months. They said, and I quote, "We only found out about this earlier this morning and we have a spread sheet into which we are putting the names of all the owners of cars which need inspection and we will get back to you. It could be a little while!"

I don't understand how that can work. Where does the chest and shoulder strap come from?

The anchor for the fixed ends seems to be different and I had a brain fart!

Ahh, yes I found the anchor points to be different each side. The drivers side has the latch on a stalk where on the nearside it's much shorter. Odd that.

Oh and yes, I've made many forum posts late in the evening and after a few sherbets too!

Well my 08 XC70 is affected by this, on the site it says volvo will contact me, now the last time it was at a volvo dealer was with it's last owner. Will they get the details from DVSA or is it better to ring up the local dealer?

That is also my understanding. The fixing to the seat on the door side of each of the front seats, somehow caused by the belt being folded onto the seat cushion. I don’t understand how that could happen unless the user is securing the belt into the buckle and then sitting on it so that they are not restrained by the seat belt but the fasten seat belt warnings are eliminated.
