Default Diesel Purged with Liqui Moly...

Yesterday I took SiRobb's advice and purged my D5 (E3) engine. It was pretty straight forward but getting the return pipe to part from the stainless steel line was a little fiddly but I temporarily pulled the metal pipes to the left which did help somewhat - this all makes sense if you watch the Youtube video. My engine was running pretty well but there had been a very slow deterioration ie it wouldn't pull 35mph in 5th like it used to and it smelt a bit diesely on start up. I am pleased to report that both issues are now rectified and the car feels smoother and torquier (Is that a real word?). I was very surprised just how slowly it was consuming the diesel purge...I would estimate it would probably take 1hr 15mins to consume only a litre! My purge did not get quite discoloured like SiRobb's but the pleated filter I used was rather discoloured so I suspect it may have been a finer filter than Si Robb's. I did see guys on Youtube not using a filter which, in my book, is lunacy. It's like washing your pants out in water and then brewing up with the water afterwards ie all the crap you have liberated is now going back into the injectors unless I am missing something....I have a suspicion that many a dirty injector has been changed out rather than trying a good cleaning. If anybody is interested I can list all the bits you need .....
HTH,
Nobby

Do the hose clamps need replacing?

If so, with any particular type, if I may ask?

Thought I'd ask before my patience runs out and I break something..

Any tips for removing the hoses from the pipes? Boy they're stuck on there!

Default Pipe removal....

As I recall there was quite a lot of 'stiction' between the pipes and the horizontal stainless tubes. I seem to think I use a set of pliers to gently rotate the rubber pipe up and down. Once you break the bond it's plain sailing thereafter.....
Good luck and remember to pull the fuel pump fuse!!!!! (Ask me how I know!?)

I have a long list of those "next Sunday possibly" jobs. In fact the list keeps getting longer.
