Not gone looking for the kick-down cable but i can say that the kick-down is working 100% as it should be, tested it yesterday, theres like 2, it would kick part way down and again with the foot planted to the carpet.
I also tested the main issue yesterday, and i could replicate the it in manual, the not changing into second when i chose it when bouncing on the limiter. If i chose second before it hits the red line then it changed into second ok. It wouldnt produce this issue in another other gear, but to be fair, i only tried it bouncing on the limiter in 3rd and 4th (on a private road, of course) 5th and 6th would have been taking the pee pee though but i am sure the results would have been the same. I also tried to see if it would do it in Automatic and i couldnt replicate it even though i am 90% sure it did it, but there is now a growing doubt that it ever did, perhaps because in auto it changes bang on the red. I dont think it is body valve solenoid related else i would see it in other gears too, no? or before it bounces on the limiter in any gear? could be wrong mind, that happens more often than not

I suggest bringing it to a transmission garage & let them investigate it. Go for a drive & show them exactly what you're experiencing.

There aren't any auto service centres near me, would need to travel further afield and thats not permitted as its outside the local area. Still not gotten around to booking it in with vulva to see if it needs an update, i am a little reluctant to possibly throwing away £70. No updates needed sir, that will be £70 please, sucker.........

Goodness knows when travel further afield will be allowed, so I understand its difficult to book it into a garage that's miles away. Has the transmission fluid been changed recently & did you go through the adaption process? If so, software updates at Volvo would be my next port of call. If that doesn't work, then bring it to your garage of choice further afield when travel restrictions are relaxed (as in when we don't have to minimise travel & can go where we want, when we want, without a valid reason). I know it'll cost to have the car hooked up, but if it fixes the issue, then I'd consider it a cheap fix! If you don't do it, you'll never know. Its best to have the software up-to-date anyway, so I wouldn't class it as money down the drain as such.

Try giving these a call, they may have come across it before :
https://www.essexgears.co.uk/services As i understand things, we can travel further afield now so you should be ok going there if necessary.

In the first lockdown, many garages were closed & MOT's were extended. In the second & third lockdowns, garages have remained open & operating as normal as best they can. The restrictions prior to the ease announced on 29th March were you should only be travelling for essential reasons, like shopping for food or picking up medication. Now the restrictions have eased slightly (as of 29th March), you're technically allowed to travel much further to see a family member for example, providing you meet them outdoors, maintain social distance & don't stay overnight. Six people maximum are allowed to meet outdoors as a group/bubble & outdoor sports are permitted again. The signs along the motorway now say "minimise travel", they don't tell you to "stay at home" like they did prior to the 29th March. So, if garages are open, surely you can book your car in & travel to it would be permitted?

As for booking a car in for diagnosis/repair, that's a perfectly valid reason IMHO to travel a bit further afield, after all there aren't automatic transmission specialists on every street corner so travel is pretty much a necessity to use their services. If stopped and the police ask why you're traveling, it's to get a fault diagnosed and repaired on your gearbox - if they ask what the fault is, the slightly smartar5e answer (but honest) is that if you knew that, you'd fix it yourself. Some questions they ask can be amazingly stupid! A stupid question gets an even dafter answer!

Bashy... I think you have reason to get this issue looked at as soon as possible. By booking your car into a garage further afield, you aren't travelling unnecessarily... its an essential trip. Like Dave says, automatic transmission specialists aren't on every street corner. I understand if you want to refrain from doing so at the moment, but all the same, its an issue that needs looking at because it sounds quite dangerous. I agree with Dave, I'd class your journey to the garage as essential.

Its only dangerous if i floor the car, i know the issue and how to stop it from happening, change gear sooner is all or use auto mode only. I would prefer to wait till lockdown is over as i dont think the feds will see this as urgent as i shouldnt be driving the car like that anyway lol They will ask what is wrong or want to know the symptoms....
