Default XC90 thermometer HELP

Hi,

Does any of you have any thermometers for the xc90. one of my kids saw it behind the small grill on the dash and pulled it out.... now the AC has gone crazy

If not any repair people out there?

Hi

I need to go have a look, but usually the internal thermometer is a thermistor and usually hidden such that its not easy to reach!

What did the kids use to get it!?!?!

Does it look alike a small bead with two wires?

Problem will be finding what component it is, so it may be a factory replacement, or perhaps try the guy breaking a xc90 in the sales section?

Hi

Is there any markings on the thermister - these could be numbers or colour bands? You could google the number and see if you can source the component on its own. Also, you could stick a meter on the old bead - you are bound to be able to measure it even if you have to dig the probes into the body.

To be honest, if there is no number, I would try a fairly generic thermister... like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...rderCode=FX42V

See how that works, and perhaps move down one value range if not quite right - thermistors are only circa £1 each, so no big deal really.

If someone else has one, you could measure the resistance at a temperature (circa 18-20 degrees for example) and match the resistance based on that.

Should be no hassle to fix! DONT WORRY!

Getting the climate control out of the dash is the same as getting the radio out.
You put the car into drive (if its an auto).
Pull out the rubber penholder.
Lift up the gear lever surround, I found it easier to remove the trim form the gear indicator (its held on with 4 small plastic tabs underneath).
You then undo the 2 screws at the base of the consol.
You can now pull the bottom of the consol out (the radio/climate are attached to each other).
You now need to reach behind it and unplug the cigarette lighter.
You can now remove the whole thing.
From this point it’s just a case of taking the climate from the radio.
Refitting is the reverse of the above.
Any questions please ask but it’s easy to do and makes sense when you do it.

Dont you need to disconnect the battery first to avoid any error messages coming up later?

You don't need to disconnect the battery if you don't intend to unplug anything (apart from the lighter) but if you do want to unplug then you need to disconnect the battery after you have put the car in to drive as there is an electronic lock on the gear lever. You will also need to turn the key back as far as it will go, it won't come out so that most of the electrics are off.
