04 Convertible roof - odd situation
Hi all,
Tonight I went to put the roof up and the light on the switch just flashed but did nothing. We turned the engine off and the hood went up. We tried this twice in a row. Why would it raise on the battery only but not when the engine is running? Weve had the car since new and this is the first time shes ever had a roof issue (108k) Any pointers appreciated! Tom

C70 roof..
Hi Tom.
Im afraid I don't have any useful advice or experience of this, but I thought I'd least reply as no one else has ! There are members who are good with electrical queries....I am not one of them. However, if it promotes discussion, I would add in my limited knowledge, that to me it suggests some sort of power drain....maybe due to earthing or wiring issues ? That is to say....it's not because the engine is running but because key is in that position, thus opening access to other electrical circuitry ? This is only my first thoughts? I hope you find the solution. Best wishes Dave

Hi C70mmy
Have a look at this thread https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=152151 and check the various things that have to be right for the open and close sequences to work. I have a 2001 and I can open and close the roof no matter what. I don't get any chimes at all. Something may be wrong with mine, but maybe yours is behaving as designed. Steve

C70 roof issues
I'm sure Tom knows the operating procedure for his roof as he has two C70's...one from new.
I was suggesting that it may be to do with electrics and the position of the key.....not so much the fact the engine is running or not. Despite the instructons...these roofs will function without the engine running...it's just they put a huge hit on the battery. So maybe what we need is someone with more electrical knowledge than me to follow up on what additional circuits are engaged when the key is in this position...and is this where a leak/discharge could be....and thus roof says no...not enough power ? As I said earlier...I'm no expert...just my ideas ....?
