Default Servicing at a non Volvo Garage

Hi,

Just had the first service on my Volvo at an independent garage. After I paid I noticed that the garage was not registered for VAT. Will this invalidate my Volvo warranty?

Must have been a really tiny garage!

You sure they aren't VAT registered but just didn't put their number on your receipt?

While the car is under warranty it's unlikely to be a good idea to get it serviced by an independent, even if they may well do a better job than a main dealer. The problem will be proving the service has been done to Volvo standards. It's hard enough getting warranty claims accepted with a bona fide record let alone giving them an excuse not to pay out

As long as they replace the correct items to Volvo's standards and use genuine parts there's no reason for your warranty to be affected.

... and if you have a Volvo dealer service, you get 12 months breakdown cover thrown in. On that basis alone, saving a few quid at an Indy could be false economy.

Agree, 12 Months Breakdown & recovery cover in both the UK & Europe & getting all the software updates as mentioned by Clan.

TBH when I compared a trusted Indie to Dealer for a service on the last car there wasn't a lot of difference in price.

Good point. Not much of a concern in my Dad's new bargain basement 2016 Suzuki Swift

Maybe main dealer servicing is worth doing at least until the warranty's expired.
