Default quick ideas for faulty aircon

V70 D5 163, 2005

Climate control no longer blowing cold. Was OK yesterday.

Spoiler.... Changed Alternator last night.

Any clues as to what stupid mistake I may have made?

A/C compressor clutch is clicking in OK and staying in.

It's an unusual set of symptoms you have so I'd be putting Volvo diagnostics on the job to interrogate the CCM.
There will be a data anomaly somewhere or the CCM may just need a recalibration.

Are you sure it was alternator you took out?

Having 2 alternators fitted wont provide much cold.

OK.OK.OK.. Where's my coat..

Is the belt routing correct? The fact the compressor is engaging suggests the control is OK and there is refrigerant in it... but if some crazy wrong belt routing caused it to rotate backwards then you'd get no cooling effect.

That is a really good question, I've had the belt off several times with no issues in the past so didn't pay too much attention to routing this time. When I refit it last night I had several minutes of head scratching as what I thought was right always left me with spare slack.

I'll take another look tonight.

I would go with the belt as well (google up on google images)

Otherwise I would guess it got a leak somehow ? (also check the small wire to the clutch, it's secured properly) Yours being a D5 when removing the belt spin the compressor pulley by hand, see if it's smooth or dry/makes noise, this guy can go bad and seize

Situation has moved on a bit. The clutch is now not engaging at all. Getting no signal to the compressor so bypassed it for a short time and the clutch pulls in no problem and holds there but still no hint of cool air at the vents.

So my current guess is that I've disturbed a pipe during the alternator change and pressure has dropped right off.

Whatever it is starting to look like a trip to a local air con guy.

Wire and plug are good but your right... if I was going to break anything in that area you would put your money there.

Off topic but with 300k miles and 13 years old the quality of the wiring and in particular the connectors really shines through compared to other makes.
