Hi all i have bought a s40. Love it. Quick question. Headlight switch positon. On 0 i have head and sides. 1 positon sides only. 2 positon headlights sides. Is there a way of having nothing on in position 0? Or is it a garage job. Thanks in advance

Main dealer, proably charge you £100ish and some will be reluctant to do it.

+1 to above. Its basically Volvo's version of DRL and can be only reprogrammed in dealership after some persuasion.
BTW - it is a must-take step if you are considering tuning your headlamps (HID's or whatnot).

Not entirely sure what you mean, we have them posh expensive headlights your not suppose to replace yourself unless you have gloves made by NASA and a Phd in Physics, thats why i would prefer to have 0 position on the switch set to nothing. If i forget to switch to sides before ignition the heads come on, if i do remember but forget when i leave the dam sides stay on forever and some, they call them parking lights lol I figure the less i have the heads on the less chance of them failing and then needing a mortgage to replace them.

As above is your only option other than turning to park/side lights and making it a part of your shut down process to turn it back to 0 so the battery doesn't go flat [yes, it's happened to me before..... twice....].

This is what I do to help prolong the headlights life a little bit. Plus the fact I don't like driving around with headlights on all the time.

Ah ok, you have OEM xenons, nevermind my digression about HIDs.
Xenons are really not "posh" nor "expensive" as car manufacturers state on those yellow labels, its just because of high voltage its safer to put a warning label rather than get sued by an idiot trying to replace a bulb while car is running and lights are on
If you dig a little, you will see that replacing xenon burner on our cars is really not a big deal, defo a DYI job and you can use any aftermarket (and better quality) bulbs like Osram/Philips and not expensive "Volvo" stuff.

I totally get what you are saying ,I prefer to have total control over my car aswell and decide when I want to have lights on/off, but if the longetivity / price of bulbs is your concern, I reckon you will spend more on disabling DRLs than on replacing them in case of burnouts. But in general, yes - its possible via dealer only.

Dealer offered to do it for free as part of a service.... by them.
Like that's a bargain.
