Default V60 D5 2014 - Knocking from front over bumps

Evening all,

I travel the same road to work everyday. I am noticing on the same patch of bumpy road which is unfortunately unavoidable, the front end tends make a decent banging noise whilst driving over this section of road. Now I have always assumed it was my tyre of choice, however being through goodyear, michelin and pirellis the sound/feeling is still present.

Is there a possibility the car has tougher shocks/springs from the factory? Perhaps ''R'' Design parts? Secondly what are common faults at this mileage (96k)? Engine mounts, subframe mounts, wishbone bushes.

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew, my guess and first thing to check would be the anti roll bar drop links.

Not particularly expensive or difficult to change if indeed it is them.👍

Arnold Clark Volvo Inverness just quoted me £180 for one side got a set of two for £25 ( on sale from £40 ) from euro car parts and did both sides in 30 minutes myself. They don't call them stealers for nothing!

Both ARB drop links inspected and found serviceable. Do the suspension struts have any rubber donuts on the top mount?

I had similar noises with my V40 for a while going over speed bumps, then one of the front springs failed along with a bearing(?) at the top of the suspension.

Was lucky to get mine replaced under warranty

There’s a bearing at the top of the front struts. Worn ones can cause a knocking noise.
