Removing/replacing disintegrated side marker bulb holder
My offside side marker bulb has been out for a while - the permanently lit orange one in the corner of the cluster, that's only on facelift cars.
Got the bumper off yesterday, pulled the headlamp cluster out, and found this... a little stub of a bulb holder that crumbled completely when I touched it, leaving the remnants shown in the photo. I can't twist it, I can't pull it, and having never changed one of these before I'm not even sure what I'm aiming for. Manual says twist clockwise and remove. Every time I touch it some more plastic flakes off. So I've put it all back together and I'll live without the side marker for a little longer. 1) How to get this out? 2) How do you go about replacing the bulb holder? Thanks

The white bit is the actual bulb holder , so if you can get it out ( twist and pull ) you can simply replace it with a new or second-hand one , I would look at a breakers for one , you might find it will also come out easier so you can see how its removed.
This is what it should look like |

Thanks. How do you replace the bulb holder? Is it just a case of pulling the two wires out of the old and pressing them in the new? Or do you have to actually splice and join wires which I'm not sure I could do?
It looks like the part may already be wired: https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-part...light/1043167/ I'll order a new bulb holder and then hopefully be able to get the old one out on the next attempt. I managed to move it a little anticlockwise (owners manual says clockwise to remove though) but it didn't want to twist more or pull out. Tried to get pliers around it but it kept falling apart.

with the one off of scandix you'll need to splice it in, it's not very difficult to do? strip the ends, and either solder them together or crimp on spade connectors. personally I'd go with solder and then heatshrink over the join
I would try and find it elsewhere though the delivery charge from scandix is crazy often these connectors are pushed into the plug but there's some sort of latch or 'barbed' bit of plastic that holds them in so if you try and tug them out you'll probably just end up with wire in your hand and metal piece still in the plug Last edited by stuart bowes; Jun 27th, 2022 at 16:35. |

I don't have any soldering tools (nor any crimping tools for that matter). Never done anything electrical hence I was trying to avoid having to mess with the wires myself.
I'm not planning to buy it from Skandix, it's just they've got a good photo to show the part. I'll call FRF later in the week and see what it'd cost on the c3 account, as I've got more bits and pieces I need to buy too.

you can buy friction fit 501 holder on ebay - just crimp and heatshrink in place
