Default How strong are the 940 axles are?

Hello, i wonder how strong the axles and the differentials are in these cars, im going to swap an om606 into this car and to goal is around 350hp/750nm
Can the stock axles do it and if not what are my options? axle swap or just strong internals? I want to daily this car so i would not go the welded diff route.
Currently is has a 500K km g80 in it.
Thanks

I don't think they would last long, with sticky tyres.
There's one or two options from Bakaxel.se

I can’t really imagine what benifit you would have over running 250BHP for example. In terms of outright power yes ok. But usability that much in that type of car must make it drive like crap surely?

Can you exploit that amount of power in that type of vehicle???

Have a look on YouTube, there are loads of 940s on there from standard to in excess of 700hp. Yes it will drive like crap if you leave it with tired original suspension but there are loads of aftermarket upgrades out there. I've polybushed just the front end on mine and it has improved the handling shed loads already.

I'm aiming for the 300hp mark with my 940 but with the original engine, my project is nothing compared to what others have/are doing.

A 360 can hold about 300bhp with with the M47 gearbox and a pretty weak differential, although drifting with sticky tyres will break it with clutch kicking. The diff output flanges are the weak point.

Some 300 modifiers upgrade to 940/240 axles but its a pretty extreme mod for the car requiring bulkhead mods to accomodate the M90 at the front. AFAIK the M90 and 240/940 axle is good for >500bhp. I would expect 350bhp should be easily contained.

Why not tune the engine that's in there (i'm guessing red block) and put it on LPG instead of changing to a big heavy Merc diesel not renowned for having get up and go?

Have a look for OM606 tuning, people are stuffing them in all sorts... They are quite tunable with a Holset turbo and reliable too. That being said you could say the same for the Redblock... Just wondering what all that weight would do over the front axle. I think I've seen some OM606's in Volvo 940's on youtube.
