Default How to clean catalytic converter and intercooler

Hello,

Recently I had problems with my 850 Tdi. It was a vacuum line and it´s solved. But now I want the original power if it was possible...

Do you think it´s a good idea clean the intercooler with gasoline and the catalytic converter with soap and water? It´s a cheap maintenance I can do...

Someone recommend me do it?

What more can i do to improve my car?

Thanks a lot.

I regularly clean the intercooler on my landrover with petrol or paint thinners, however I now always blow it through with an air line after to ensure its dry having had the engine try to run away when the fumes from the intercooler got into the engine on tick over.

Wether soap and water would move the gunk from the erg valve I have my doubts, I would think some sort of degreasing agent would be needed. I have found neat road traffic film remover to be an excellent degreaser and washes off with the hose pipe, at £15 for 25 litres it's a lot cheaper than proprietary brands of degreaser.

Paul.

Be careful with that gunge, it's horrible nasty black sh!te, and is apparently carcinogenic (if that's the correct spelling).

Has good results with this:

http://www.swarfega.com/workplace/products/sjz5l

(Plus it always lightens up cold day in the garage with all the puns you can squeeze out of it.)

It's water soluable so less of an issue if you have to do your cleaning indoors and don't want the place smelling like a petrol station.

(For the intercooler)
