Default Has City Safety / Collision awareness saved you?

First of all, sorry if this has come up before. Struggling to get the search bar to stay open browsing on a phone!

So, has anyone been saved the embarrassment yet by the wonderful tech? My V60 saved me today from some of the worst driving I've seen in a while.

Crossing a roundabout straight over in lane 2, the lady ahead was indicating right and was past the exit. I looked to my 9 o'clock to ensure the fellow in lane 1 was doing as I expected so I was applying the gas and then the alarm and braking! So foot flat on the brake and as I look forward the woman ahead had gone hard left to try and come back around the roundabout to make her missed exit! The car stopped inches off her rear left wing / passenger door.

I'm thinking again of a dash cam.. I'm sure it would of been entertaining to watch / count how many swear words I got out..

It kicked into action on Friday morning when the Seat Ibiza in front of me did an emergency stop with an entirely clear road in front of it. It worked just a bit quicker than I could react to be honest.

I think that the Seat may have had the same fault that I experienced in rental Golf a year ago when the emergency brakes were activated for absolutely no reason. Very scary and worringing.

Always expect the unexpected. My dad always tells me think of every other driver as an idiot and you will not go wrong.

I would say any driver who is relying and driver aids to warn/stop a collision then most likely that driver is not safe to be on the roads.

Not saying anything about your driving

True, however when someone has passed an exit on a roundabout you don't expect them to come back around the roundabout pretty much the wrong way. It falls under 'the unexpected ' granted, however you can't look everywhere. I would of classed the driver to my left the current greater hazard (assuming the lady infront was past my exit so assumed unhittable) so I was directing my attention to them at the time.

These aids are on the car so use them to fill in the holes in the Swisscheese as we will all drop one eventually.

However lesson learnt and all that...

Had a few warnings, usually when i'm engine braking.
Nothing serious yet.

Had a few close encounters on my last car that im sure this system would have avoided, like when an entire motorway comes to a stop from 60/70 in the space of seconds.

Ive not had any issues in a Volve (about to order one) but my current Skoda had been triggered a few time over the past 4 years. The last time it happened, the system deactivated and required reprogramming at a Skoda dealers ship an hours drive away (the only one with the necessary kit). Apprently after intervening on 3 occasions, the system has to be recalibrated at a cost of £300.
