Can the TCV be cleaned out?
Just giving the old girl a makeover and saw this big orange unit, just wondered if it can be cleaned out as the car is high mileage.
Gary.

Cleaned mine while ago, was easy enough as top of the unit pops open with fine flat screwdriver. First disconnect couple hoses and mounting bolt, once capping opened there is round sponge filter which needs to be gently cleaned in warm soapy water, dried and put back in then couple hoses re connected. Check youtube 'how to clean TCV' Mr.Fix is the name I think... Last edited by Vfifty; Apr 16th, 2017 at 00:18. Reason: correction |

All done and very easy to do, my unit had been off before as a nut was missing and the connector had elec tape around it to keep it in place, it was very dirty,
I read somewhere before that someone else had elec tape on their unit as well and he thought it was aftermarket. https://youtu.be/3Mty5n9UpF4

I haven't taken the car out yet since cleaning it, but will do so today as I am seeing a member on here who is helping me change the fuel filter and doing a moly slip treatment.it was very dirty, not sure it was enough to affect anything. Gary

Has anyone replaced the lower TCV valve yet ? I wonder how you get to it. From above seems quite impossible without removing the starter etc.
