Default Bye bye S80 !

Just a quick message to thank all the contributors to this part of the forum for all the help & advice they provide clueless S80 owners like me. Anytime I've had a problem with my S80 I've come here and usually found a thread & some great advice which has helped me keep my own S80 on the road.

Sadly my S80's time with me is shortly coming to an end.

It's all down to ££ unfortunately. I bought her at a time when road tax was the same for everyone & when petrol prices weren't as great an issue as they are today. I've done my damndest to keep her on the road, she's been lavished with repairs and services over the years.

But sadly a fatal combination of a failing steering rack, a crapped out sensor/engine management issue, failing windscreen wipers, knackered fuel hinge, trim falling off ... oh and mega road tax due end of January ... means that the old girl has to go. Such a terrible shame.

Still, the new car is an S40, lovely little diesel eco-model with £20 road tax. Should get twice the miles out of it for the same amount of fuel, my insurance for the new car is more than halved as well (wtf is that about ?). I keep having to remind myself why a new car makes sense (and it does) but I've had my S80 so long I'm really going to miss her *sobs* lol

Anyway ... cheers for helping me out with my S80. Hope to see some of you again on other parts of the forums.

Yep, know what you mean. These things can become money pits, one can't keep throwing money at them forever. Enjoy your new, much cheaper to run, S40.

Hello, With the time you have left try to unload it on this or some other board. Simply be truthful and price it to sell quickly.

Any new owner might want it for parts-or just the wheels and tyres.

List the car under "Business Opportunity" in a separate ad. Get someone to drive it off for you and put a little cash in your pocket. Kira

Sounds like the S80 is going in as part-ex for the S40 Kira, its often the best way to off load a troublesome, money pit of a car, especially if you're getting a new one anyway.

Hello, Yes, part ex (we say 'trade in) is quick and easy especially if you're unloading an older, sick puppy of a car.
I reread the OP. I think tr82 already owns the S40 and still has the S80 to unload.

Did I read that correctly? God luck with whatever you do tr. Kira

My Brother has an identical S80 to mine albeit a year younger (yet 60,000 miles more than mine) ... I offered him mine to use for spares. But he's thinking about downsizing too and doesn't want two cars to dispose of.

So mine is being traded in & sent off to auction. Someone in the know might be lucky to get her, but I suspect she'll simply be scrapped as uneconomic to repair.

Our shape S80's are disappearing off the roads at an alarming rate now.

I really like my V70 auto but the fuel economy (approx 28mpg overall) is an issue. I would like another V70 auto and hope that a newer generation of vehicle will, whilst not being an 'Eco car", give me MPG that is acceptable - high 30s to 40+.....or maybe I'm dreaming.

I traded in my 2004 Merc CLK270 CDI in April for the S60 because i just couldn't shift it. Mint condition after ££££'s of repairs because it was constantly going wrong... Worst buy i've ever made. I literally lost £6k on that car, but thats just the way it is sometimes. Not financially efficient to keep it so traded it against a brand i know and trust.
Good old Volvo!!
