Going through all the paperwork we've got for the car, in preparation for the trade in & collecting the new car.

This is what we've had done to the car since day one. There's probably an invoice or two missing for minor stuff. There's a sudden rash of failing tyres from about 2007/8 onwards, we'd moved from a house right beside the motorway to a rural area (with very rural roads & potholes). We made the decision to replace the Pirellis with cheap nasty tyres, simply because the roads were in such a bad state ... I'm still unsure whether that was a false economy.

We were awfully fortunate, convenience was our big thing during most of that decade, rather than cost. That's why the car was serviced at a Volvo dealer. Sadly, like many others, the recession & austerity have bitten, that plus the rotten government and their punitive road tax & fuel duty ... and economies have to be made.

I guess it shows how such cars can become money pits over the years, what with the steering rack now failing, engine management lights on etc etc etc.

It was such a great car. I'm even confident that one of my kids was conceived in it ... but you really can't put a price on that HAHA.

It's nice to see such a comprehensive history! I always put my invoices etc in plactic folder and then keep them in a ring binder in date order. A bit anal I know, but just looks better and keeps it ready for its future custodians!

I can understand that the cost of keeping these cars running can prove very expensive as I have just found out.
Thermostat plus 3 litres of coolant from Volvo £116.07 and that's at a trade price!! After picking myself up of the floor and ringing around for a better price no one could match it. Even my local trade motor factors quoted me £132 just for the thermostat!!
O well no pain no gain. The old bus still brings a big smile to my face.

Hello, A list such as tr82's also helps sell a car faster. It's not anal, it's complete.
Also, how bothersome can it be? Listing data happens when your paying a bill.
We used to notate in our checkbooks not that long ago. That's not a bother.

When my car hits 200,000 (won't make it-just jinxed it) I'll post my maintenance and mileage records.

I just have to learn how to attach Word and Excel files. I have 30K to learn. Kira

My neighbours would strongly disagree. Anyway you know what invariably happens as soon as you say never

Default History

Hello, I just reread your maintenance list and selected some data.

You tallied ~46 miles/day over the first 3 years of your car's life.
That figure dropped to 23 miles/day during the vehicle's prime.
Its final 2 years were leisurely ones; traveling a mere 6.1 miles per day.
Those are always hard miles.

CONCLUSION: The car did its job like a trooper.
One family member retired from working or ceased using the car for work/school.
It eased into the sunset fetching the morning paper and groceries.
I'm running out and changing my PAS fluid.

Your grateful children have surprised you with the promise of a brand new S40.
They asked you to assemble your records so they can make the very best deal they can.

So, Dear Dad, what color do you want?

How's my detective work? Kira
