Default SRS Control Module internal fault

Hi,

I have an 08 C30 2.0D with an SRS control module internal fault code.
The garage tells me I need to replace the module and have it reprogrammed to the car. - approx cost £1K.

I have seen posts here saying that it doesn't need programming and that I can replace the module myself. There was a helpful guide 'HOw to replace the SRS control module'

However this guide was for a S40/V40 '96 - '04

My question is: Can an 08 C30 SRS module be replaced without needing programming to the car?

i.e Can I just buy one and replace the faulty one myself.

or do '07- models have some different trickery in them that prevents this?

Thanks in advance

John

Well they need to be coded in sadly and I am not 100% sure but it seems every Volvo unit uses EPROM which can only be coded once hence why you can't get second hand parts. You can change the units and swap some chips over but i takes skill

Default SRS control module repair ?

Thanks for your response. I was afraid that might be the case.

However I came accross a site in the uk that says

'Airbag module reset and repair service for Volvo SRS module commonly fitted to C30, S40 models with the part number 30773786 Temic. We remove the stored crash data from your module enabling you to reuse the unit without having to buy a expensive new SRS module from the main dealers. We can also fix the dreaded "SRS-CFFF Control module Internal Fault" Issues that are very common. On some scanners the internal fault is also displayed as "53247 Unknown error"

Save your self over £700 and have us repair the module, It will function exactly the same as a new one again.'

This 'sounds' like a solution - has anyone had an SRS module repaired in this way sucessfully? is it possible?

The cost of the official fix seems disproportionately high so I am trying to find a cheaper way.

I have the same problem with my 07 C30 2.0d.
Have you fixed yours?
Who is the company offering this service?
Thanks, Jeff.

Crashdata.co.uk.
I had the same problem, used the above, posted my module to them, they returned it in a couple of days and saved myself £532.My local Volvo dealer quoted £600 to replace the unit, I paid £68 incl postage.
I don't hesitate in recommending them.

Is the module under the centre armrest?
Does the armrest have to come out to extract it?
Thanks, Jeff

Yes, you have to remove the console. There's a utube video showing how to remove the 'waterfall', remove 2 screws under the rear cubbyhole lid and lift up the top trim. There are 2 screws in bottom of the CD holder and 2 at the front of the console.
You'll see the module under it all held by 4 bolts. Don't forget to disconnect the battery.
It's little fiddly but I did put it all back together in under an hour.
Hope this helps.

Jiust to close this off.
I sent the module to crashdata, they reset it and returned to me.
After refitting the module, the SRS message is gone and the warning light is no longer on.

A great service that saves a serious chunk of money - well recommended

Hello, I'm very interested in this conversation. I'm in France and there are not as many Volvo cars as in UK. I have the same error SRS-CFFF and Volvo tells me I need a new Calculator + SW flash etc, for 800 euros. I'd like to do as you dit with Crashdata.co.uk (I could not find a company doing in France, they can just reset the crash data, but can't reset any other failure). So just for confirmation, once you received your reflashed module, did you have something to do after replugging it?

Thanks in advance, and have a great day.

Pierre

Hi Pierre,
No, nothing else to do.
I replaced the car battery at the same time as it was the original and 10 years old. Jeff.
