Default Gent factory

Has anyone on here visited the factory in Gent? Is it worthwhile? Is it possible as a private individual? The website implies that preference is given to groups but doesnt seem to say it is not possible for individuals. We are probably passing the door in the summer.....

Only a few models built in Ghent - XC60, V40, V40CC, and possibly the new XC40 - according to what I found on the internet a few minutes ago.

http://volvocars.industryvisit.com/en/prices

Looks like visits from individuals aren't catered for though.

Note : The cost is suppposed to be just a contribution towards their expenses!!
How much do they pay the guides or a 2-hour wander around?

The club run occasional tours of Ghent, although I’ve not been able to go on one yet so can’t comment on whether it’s any good.

The Toyota tour in Derby is great, and free.

So is the tour around Nissan Sunderland. That is on a whole different production scale.
All factories have subtle and large differences and its worthwhile visiting as many as possible if you have an interest in such things.

Having this subject pop up, I feel the need again ;-)

Thanks for the link. I did look a while back and it didn't quite say that. I might drop them a line anyway, as it seems to be details for 2017 and it implies that individual visits might be possible some time soon.... No planning on being there until August.

I have been there with the VOC. Well worth a visit.

At the time, the V40 and XC60 were made there. We were told XC60 production would move to Sweden.....and we saw rear panels of the new XC40 on some pallets (not meant to see that!). Pictures are not allowed to be taken inside the factory.

Been to quite a few factories come to think of it:
Nissan, Sunderland
MB, Stuttgart
MB, Bremen
Volvo, Gothenburg (Or Göteborg as its really called!)
Volvo, as above
Audi, Neckarsulm x2

All very interesting. The nicest were Audi and Volvo Ghent.

I drove my Landrover Defender 90 from South Wales to Duram, that was a journey, the trip in your lovely XC90 will not be such a challenge.

Except Quacker would have to go in his Qashqai, not the Volvo!
