Default Help!! In car heater problems.

Hi everyone, I am a new to the forum and would massively appreciate some advice or direction with the following problem. I have a 1996 850R auto. The heater/air con works fine but the vent to the footwells does not work. My mechanic said something about an 'actuator' costing 200-300 quid, but I have no idea what he's talking about. Could someone PLEASE shed some light on this for me as everything I get in the car my feet freeze! MAny thanks, Max.

With the 850 R's the heating is controlled by motors(actuator)one of these must have stopped working thus it need replacing, but £200-£300 that is a bit silly you should be able to pick them up for £10 second hand

Thanks for the swift reply. Do you have any idea of approximately how much these motors cost and where I may be able to get hold of one? My mechanic said that he could only get them from Volvo and the cost would be about £300.

Would the motors be exclusive to the 850R, or would the motors from a standard 850 do the job too?

Any 850 with the auto climate control will have the same actuators

I've PM'd him, but I have one more question... Is there more than one motor that controls the vents?

Also, I was a little sceptical about posting a question on a forum, but you've been great, so thanks.

why not try srcapyards, i got my vent/floor/defroster motor for almost nothing, 5 euro or so (in Italy)
when you replace the motor, it will need calibrating flap position
this can be done with a home made tool, youll ind the howto on the forum somewhere (code reader or the OBDl cars)
