Idle problem
Right then, I changed the oil and filter on my 97 940 LPT earlier.
I used a genuine Volvo filter and I thought Shell 10w40 semi synthetic but it is actually 10w40 synthetic. Unfortunately I didn't realise until I had drained the old oil in to the oil drainer at work on the ramp (rookie mistake). Now when I start the car (even when at temp) it idled low for a few seconds before sorting itself out, this problem has just started today literally from the first start after the oil change. Any ideas? I will leave the synthetic oil in there as it is a better quality oil. Another oddity is sometimes when coming to a stand still if I know it is going to be a long slow down I will drop it out of D into neutral and the idle sometimes shoots up to about 1400 until I come to a complete stop and then it will drop back down to 800ish. Is that likely to be a faulty Idle Control Valve? |

It is now starting and idling correctly, I do like it when these things fix themselves haha.
Now have a damaged arm rest due to the wife insisting we get a wardrobe... in my saloon -_- good thing the one I'm breaking has the same colour in perfect condition! |

Well I was going to say wait a bit and see,
everything goes a bit differently right after an oil change (in my opinion), just as a sudden cold snap or heatwave. Perhaps some hard oily deposits got shuffled somewhere unpleasant and then got burned out ... just guessing really. Bizarrely my armrest has survived the sharp oak planks and long pointy things I load into mine, but most of the plastic has been smashed off the back seats. (The wife never sits in the back though)
