XC90 Anti Skid Temporarily Off.
Hi people, hope you can help me?
Over the last few weeks our Xc90 displays a message stating ' Anti Skid Temporarily Off?? This happens only some times and when it does it will display when the car is started, as soon as you drive off it will almost reset it's self as the message goes away. I have scanned the car and it has no DTC in any ecu, I even selected the SRS (I think that's the correct one) and nothing in there? AS it's a temp fault with no DTC showing I am unsure what to look for? Any one else had this? |

This could be normal behaviour
I recall reading the following somewhere, but I cannot remember where and I thus cannot be 100% certain that this is correct: The anti skid system will temporarily deactivate if the engine is started and no movement of the steering wheel occurs within x minutes, as the system is thinking the steering angle sensor is possible faulty, as no signal has been received. Once the steering wheel is moved, the message goes away. VIDA says the following, which supports my theory: SAS After initiation, with the ignition key in position II and when the steering wheel is turned 4.5 degrees in any direction, the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) continuously transmits information about the steering wheel angle position to the brake control module (BCM) to calculate the intended direction of travel. The steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) also transmits information to the suspension module (SUM). Communication between the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) and the brake control module (BCM) occurs on the high speed side of the controller area network (CAN). The steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) is integrated in the steering wheel module (SWM). The steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) is powered via the steering wheel module (SWM). The steering wheel angle sensor is incorporated with the SRS contact reel, which in turn is installed on the steering wheel module (SWM). A code wheel is mounted inside the steering wheel angle sensor which follows the movements of the steering wheel. 9 optical digital sensors and 2 analog photo diodes read off the code wheel. The signal must create a specific pattern. This information is transmitted to the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) which uses these signals to calculate the steering wheel angle, speed and number of turns. In total, the steering wheel angle sensor can measure a range of +/- 720 degrees, although the steering wheel can only be turned a maximum of +/-540 degrees. Due to the reliance of the DSTC/ESC system on information from the steering angle sensor it is extremely important that the contact reel has been centred correctly and that only an original Volvo steering wheel is used. Edit: Here's a post indicating that it is highly likely the Steering Angle Sensor is faulty, or going faulty. Easy fix: https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/a...-xc90-and-s60-

i had this once, and after searching found out that this sometimes happens when the battery is a bit low. This might tie in lower battery efficiency during the cold weather.

It will not log a fault if it is not a fault.
A temporary deactivation due to normal operating parameters being exceeded is not necessarily a fault.

When the SAS started to fail on ours we got the temporary off warning after leaving the steering at full lock (cant remember if it was left or right). It ended up that we got this message and the service required until I replaced the SAS along with the clock spring as they are combined in the XC90.
